Essex has been breaking boundaries from the start. “A new kind of university… where students could live and learn… and research really mattered” – this was the founding vision of Essex’s first Vice-Chancellor Sir Albert Sloman. His commitment to research and education remains at the heart of the university’s mission. Its academics have produced work which has inspired entire generations and helped establish Essex’s reputation for research in the UK, particularly in the social sciences.
The University of Essex has students from more than 140 countries and over a third of its students are from outside the UK. It is a global university which is proud to play a part in the cultural and economic life of the communities surrounding our Colchester, Southend and Loughton Campuses.
Over 16,000 students from more than 140 countries study across Essex’s three campuses. Renowned for research in social science, human rights and data analytics, Essex is consistently ranked number one for politics (REF 2014), it is the only university to be awarded a Regius Professorship for political science by The Queen and it is in the top 50 for social sciences in THE World University Rankings.
A number of our partner universities award both automatic scholarships for EU students and academic scholarships from £5,000 to £22,000.
Since 2016, UniLink has managed to obtain scholarships for students worth more than 72 million crowns.
Colchester, a historic Essex town, Britain’s first city and former capital of Roman Britain. Its rich history dates back over 2000 years and is ripe for exploring.
But it’s not all about the past. 21st Century Colchester is a thriving, modern town with first class visitor attractions, including the family favourites Colchester Zoo and Colchester Castle, as well as fantastic places to eat, drink and shop.
Beyond the historic town centre Colchester’s beautiful borough includes popular destinations including Mersea Island and Constable Country in the Dedham Vale
Na University of Essex studuji třetím rokem BA Politics and International Relations a výběrem této univerzity rozhodně nelituji. Ačkoli nás zasáhl covid, univerzita se nám často snažila co nejvíc vyjít vstříc. Stejně tak vyučující, kteří zde patří k nejlepším ve svém o oboru, byli úžasní. Nejen jejich zajímavý styl výuky, který je (naštěstí) naprosto odlišný od toho českého, ale také vřelý přístup k nám studentům a neskutečná ochota. V případě (i osobních) problémů bylo vždy na koho se na univerzitě obrátit.
Krásné je také prostředí kampusu, který se nachází v klidném parku plném zeleně a zvířat, zvoleného mezi top 10 green spaces v UK. Kampus je kousek od středu malebného městečka Colchester, které je sice menší, ale nádherné a klidné a zároveň jen hodinu od Londýna. Už teď vím, že mi bude Essex moc chybět.
